How to find your shade in natural light

Bathroom lighting lies. A simple window test, three swatches and one question about your veins will get you to the right Petal Skin Tint.

Pot of peach blush with a gold brush

The most common reason people return a tint isn’t the formula — it’s the shade. Artificial light shifts colour dramatically, so a match that looks perfect in your bathroom can turn orange by lunchtime. The fix is simple: test by a window.

Start with your undertone

Look at the veins on your inner wrist in daylight. Mostly blue or purple usually means cool; green means warm; a mix often means neutral. If your skin looks slightly green-grey in shade, try our Olive range first.

Swatch three, not one

Pick the shade you think is right plus one lighter and one deeper. Swipe all three along your jawline, wait two minutes for the tint to settle, then step to the window. The one that disappears is your match.

When in doubt, go lighter

Petal Skin Tint deepens very slightly as it sets, so if you’re between two shades, choose the lighter one. Still unsure? Our Shade Finder on the homepage matches you in under a minute, and every shade can be swapped free within 30 days.

Sensitive skin? Swatch on your inner arm for 24 hours before applying to your face.
